5 Tips for Fresh Breath

Lemon Dental Fresh Breath

Want to keep your breath as fresh as possible at all times? Follow these tips.

  1. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Don’t forget to brush your tongue, odor causing bacteria can live there too! If you wear dentures, remove them nightly for cleaning before placing them back in your mouth the next day.
  2. Visit us for a check-up two times per year! We can spot trouble before it begins and we will notice during our oral exam if you have dry mouth, periodontal disease, or any other issue that may be causing bad breath.
  3. Stop smoking and chewing tobacco-based products. This is bad for your health in so many ways and a huge cause of bad breath. No one wants to kiss an ash tray.
  4. Drink lots of water, a dry mouth is the most common cause of bad breath. This will keep your mouth moist. If you aren’t near water, keep some sugarless chewing gum handy. It helps to stimulate saliva which helps naturally wash away food and bacteria that linger in your mouth after a meal.
  5. Watch what you eat. Certain medications and foods can also be a source of bad breath. Onions garlic, coffee and acidic foods can all cause bad breath. If you are worried, contact our office for an oral exam and we can go over some options to keep your smile fresh, healthy, and smelling clean.
